SNIPPETS 1999-2000


APRIL 24:Rev. Fr. Wilson Pidiyath was relieved from the office of the Father Prefect.  Rev. Fr. Biju Alappatt and Rev. Fr.Saijan Vazhappilly assumed the offices of the Father Prefect and the Assistan Livrarian respectively.

MAY 31: The Seminary re-opened.  All the senior students are back home with much enthusiasm and expectations.

JUNE 01: St. Joseph's Home, the residence for the philosophy students, was blessed and the new academic year was inaugurated with a Holy Mass at 4.00 p.m. by Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy.  The new batch of 25 (22 residential + 3 day scholars) students arrived.

JUNE 02: Opening retreat began.  Rev. Fr. Raphael Muthupeedika and Rev. Fr. Varghese Kuthur preached respectively for the first years and second years.

JUNE 04: Opening retreat ended.  Orientation course on time, talent and emotional management by a team of experts from Rajagiri College, Kalamassery began.

JUNE 05: Orientation course ended.

JUNE 07:Rt. Rev. Mgr. Joseph Kakkassery, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Trichur, inaugurated the regular classes in the new academic year.

JUNE 11:Feast of Sacred Heart - 13 hours Adoration

JULY 02: Second year students went for a half-day study tour to the Forest and Wild Life Information Centre at Kuthiran.

JULY 03: Dukrana of Mar Thomas was celebrated with 'RASA" by V. Rev. Dr. Paul Alappatt.  English and Malayalam academies were inaugurated by Mr. P.M. Francis, Additional District magistrate and Mr. Sippi Pallipram respectively Marymatha Annual 1999 was released by giving its first copy to Kumari Simi Jose, rank holder in SSLC examinations.

JULY 04: Monthly Recollection - Rev. Fr. Christie Vattakuzhy OFM cap.

JULY 08: Extension lecture on "Counselling and Theraphy" - Rev. Fr. Dr. Jose P. Anto.

JULY 10: Extension lecture on "Creativity" - Dr. Sunder Prasad.

JULY 12: Extension lecture on "Methodology of Family Visits" - Rev. Sr. Maris Stella CHF.

JULY 27: Rev. Fr. John Van Deerlin, Parish Priest Doha, reached seminary to stay for a week.

JULY 29: Rev. Fr. Biju Alappatt was relieved from the office of the Fr. Prefoect and was sent for higher studies to Rome.  He was given a cordial farewell.

JULY 31: Public Meeting in connection with Vianney Day.  V. Rev. Fr. Lawrence Olakkengil, Vicar, Lourdes Metropolitan Cathedral, inaugurated the meeting and Rev. Fr. John Van Deerlin, Doha, presided over the same.  During the meeting Chevaliar Mr. Sunny Thekkanath was felicitated.

AUG 01: The Seminary famil went in pilgrimage to St. John Marie Vianney Church, Manamangalam.

AUG 03:Seminar on "Relevance of Gandhian Thought" by Dr. K. Aravindakshan.  The feast of St. John Marie Vianney was celebrated at St. Patrick's Parish, Mulayam.

AUG 04:The Feast of St. John Marie Vianney.  The solemn Holy Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Davis Chirammel.  The construction of the Kitchen cum Refectory block began.

AUG 05:On groupwise, a discussion was organized on " the Infiltration of the Pentecostal Movemnts among the Catholics"

AUG 07:Monthly Recollection - Rev. Fr. George Therattil

AUG 13:A panel discussion with the office bearers of KCYM on the theme " The Expectations of the Youth from the Priests"

AUG 14:Rt. Rev. Mgr. Francis J. Duffi, Paterson Diocese, reached the seminary to spend a fortnight here.

AUG 15:First Anniversary of the formal inauguration of the seminary .  Rev. Fr. Jose Porunnedam, Chancellor, Major Archiepiscopal Curia, Mount St Thomas , celebrated the solemn Holy Mass in connection with the Feast of Assumption of Bl. Virgin Mary and the day of Independence.  Mr. A. Hemachandran IPS, DSP of Thrissur, presided ove the solemn academy held on that day.

AUG 21:The seminary family went in pilgrimage to the tomb of Euphrasia, the Servant of God.

AUG 24:Pookalamalsaram  - Little Flower group of O. Carm brothers won the first prize.

AUG 25:Thiruvonam.  Rt. Rev. Mgr. Francis Duffy celebrated the solemn Holy Mass on this day.  Onasandha and Kalasandhya were other items of the celebration.

AUG 28:Onolsav 99 ( Competitions held for the children in connection with Oam)  was inaugurated by Sr. M. P. Joseph, Director, SOS Childrens's Village.  Rev. Dr. George Nedungatt presided over the function and Mr. P. U. Paily, DYSP, Irinjalakuda gave away the prizes.  Around 200 children participated in the programme.

AUG 30:Extension lecture on "Nazarani or Christaini" by Rev. Fr. George Nedungatt S.J, Professor, Pontifical Oriental Institute , Rome. 

SEP 04: Monthly Recollection - Rev. Fr. Giles Chettupuzhakkaran

SEP 07:The seminary family went in pilgrimage to Arogyamatha Church, Karumathra.

SEP 08: Rev. Fr. Michael SDV, celebrated the Holy Mass on the feast of Nativity of our Lady.  First year students visited Damien Leprosy Hospital while second year students visited Divya Hridayashram, Chennaipara.

SEP 22:Awareness class on the theme "Spread of AIDs and the attitude Towards the AIDS Affected Patients by Mrs. Catharene MSW.

SEP 25:Most Rev. Dr. Raphael Cheenath, Archbishop of Cuttak- Bhuvanesuar, celebrated Holy Mass in connection with Mission Sunday and shared his experience as a missionary in North India.

SEP 29:Rev. Fr.Raphael Thattil, Rector and Rev. Fr.Raphael Muthupeedika, Spiritual Director and Professor were felicitated on the occasion of the feast of their heavenly Patron.

OCT 02:Monthly Recollection - Rev. Fr. Paul Peramangalath

OCT 06:Study leave began.

OCT 07:Rosay Procession was held in connection with the feast of Our Lady of Holy Rosary.

OCT 09:Semester examinations began.

OCT 16:With the Holy Mass offered by Rt Rev. Mgr Joseph Kakkassery, the activities of the first semester were concluded.  Semester holidays began.

OCT 25:Students returned after the semester vacation.

OCT 26:Annual Retreat began.  Rev. Fr. Shajan Thermadam preached the retreat.

OCT 30:Annual Retreat ended with the concluding message given by Most Rev. Dr. Patrick D'Souza, Bishop of Varanasi.  Bishop Patrick shared his experience as a bishop and a missionary in North India.

NOV 01:Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy offered the Holy Mass.  Regular classes in the second semester began.

NOV 06:Annual Picnic

NOV 07:Rev.Fr. Varghese Karipperi shared his experiences on the ministry among the lost, the least and the last.

NOV 11:Rev. Fr. Paul Maroky was felicitated on the occasion of the 40th anniversay of his sacerdotal ordination.

NOV 30:Spiritual Instruction : "Prepare the way, the Lord is coming" by Rev. Fr. Varghese Kuthur.

DEC 05:A Medical Camp was conducted in the seminary as a joint venture of the Seminary , the Salesian CO-operators and the Amala Fellowship.  About 1000 were examined and free medicines were distributed.

DEC 08:Home Day.  Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy was the main celebrant of the Eucharistic celebration and the chief guest of the public meeting.  The group dance and the on-cat play Kannikani , written and directed by Mr. C.L. Jose received good appreciation.

DEC 18:Most Rev. Dr. Varkey Vithayathil, the Apostolic Administrator of Syro-malabar Church, visited the seminary and was given a warm reception.  During the visitation, he offered a solemn Holy Mass with the seminary family and shared his views on the priestly formation during the family gathering.  On the same day, the Archdiocesan Mothers' Association voluntarily took part in the construction work of the seminary.

JAN 03:Brothers returned after vacation

JAN 04:Farewell to Sr Rosily Theethai SND, and Sr. Raibi SND.

JAN 05:Pindi Kuthi Perunnal  (Feast of Denaha) was celebrated with traditional solemnities.  Most Rev. George Annathil, Bishop of Indore, visited the seminary.

JAN 09:Monthly Recollection - Sr. Daffini MSMI.  A group of yongsters from St. Mary's Parish, Ambakad rendered voluntary service to the construction of the seminary.

JAN 10:Reception to New Priests

JAN 17:Sr. Elizabeth Admaik, Mother General , Congregation of Peter Claver, Rome, visited seminary.

JAN 23:Quiz competition on the history and culture of India was conducted in connection with the republic day.

JAN 24:Public meeting in connection with the Republic Day.  The one act play Vande matharam was staged.

JAN 25:Warm welcome was accorded to Rev. Mother Mediatrix, Mother General, Vincentian Congregation and one of the principal benefactors of the seminary.  Rt. Rev. Mgr. Joseph Growth, finance officer of the Diocese of Paderbon; was also present on the occasion.  Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy offered the thanksgiving Holy Mass and blessed the foundation stone of the theology residence block.  Mother Mediatrix laid the foundation stone at the site of construction.

JAN 26:On the Occasion of the Republic day, Rev. Dr. Antony Poruthur administered the Eucharistic Liturgy.

JAN 27:Mar George Panikulam, Apostolic Nuncio of Honduras, visited the seminary.  His Excellency Yohannan Mar Milithios, Bishop of Syrian Orthodox Church, Thrissur, gave a talk in connection with the Church unit octave.

JAN 31:Parents' Day.  Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy offered the Holy Mass.

FEB 03:Sri A.C. Jose MP visited the seminary and shared his experience as a member of the parliament of India.

FEB 05:Recollection - Rev. Fr. Thomas Palathingal.

FEB 06:Annual parish feast of St. Patrick's Church, Mulayam.

FEB 11:Rosary Procession to SND Nirmala Novitiate house in connection with the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes.  Rt. Rev. Mgr. Joseph Kakkassery was the main celebrant of the solemn Holy Mass celebrated at the grotto.

FEB 21:Mar Abraham Viruthukulamgara, Archbishop of Nagapur, visited the seminary.

MAR 05:feast of St.Joseph was celebrated. The agape was blessed by Rt. Rev. Mgr. Joseph Kakkassery.  For the agape around 100 people were invited from the neighborhood of the seminary.

MAR 06:Study Leave began.

MAR 11:The semester examinations began.  CBCI President and Archbishop of Delhi, Most Rev. Dr. Alan De Lastic , visited the seminary.

MAR 14:The seminary family joined the Maha Jubilee adoration at 12.00 midnight to 2.00a.m.

MAR 17:A family gathering of students and staff was organized, in which the performance of the entire seminary family is discussed and experiences were shared.

MAR 18:Second year philosophers left for vacation.  First year philosophers began  Sneholsav 2000 at Kozhukully Parish.

MAR 26:Sneholsav 2000 at Kozhukully ended with a thanksgiving Mass by Rev. Fr. Davis Pattath CMI.

MAR 26-30:Work camp for the seminary construction by the first year students.

APR 2-7:Work camp for the seminary construction by the second year students.

APR 08:Second Year Philosophers began Sneholsav 2000 at Eravimangalam parish.

APR 16:Sneholsav 2000 at Eravimangalam Ended.
